1、 How to upload data in SPSS

In addition to directly importing data files such as ". CSV" and ". SAV", SPSS also supports uploading data from Excel and text files. Next, I will demonstrate the steps and precautions for uploading data to SPSS using practical cases.

1. Upload data from Excel

Open the SPSS data analysis software and select 'Upload data from Excel' in the file drop-down menu.

In the newly popped up window, based on the data structure in the preview interface, decide whether to check "Read variable names from the first row of data".

The following is a demonstration of the effect of uploading data from Excel to SPSS.

2. Upload data from text files

Open the SPSS data analysis software and select 'Upload Data from Text Document' from the file dropdown menu.

In the newly popped up window, select the predefined format that matches the data structure. If not available, please check 'No'.

Select the data arrangement method and the position of the variable name (in this case, the first line), and define the style of the decimal point.

Set the line number starting from the first data and the amount of data to be imported (all imports checked here).

Set the delimiter and text qualifier for the dataset, click "Next" to enter variable settings.

Click on the data column in the preview window, and we can modify the variable name on this page. Open the dropdown menu for data format, set the types of the four course variables to numbers, and adjust the character width.

After previewing the data without errors, click "Finish" to upload the data from the text document to the SPSS data analysis software.

What should I do if there are missing data uploaded to SPSS

Missing values are a common issue in the process of data upload, usually caused by collection omissions, inconsistent data formats, and other reasons. In SPSS data analysis software, missing data will directly affect the final analysis results. Next, I will introduce the steps for "defining" and "replacing" missing data in SPSS.

1. Define missing data

In the data view page of SPSS, observing the data uploaded from Excel, it was found that the missing values in the dataset were annotated using NA.

Open the variable view mode, in the "Missing" attribute bar, click on the cell for the subject variable. In the pop-up window, check "Discrete Missing Values" and enter the letter "NA" to define all missing values in the dataset.

2. Batch replacement of missing data

In the "Convert" drop-down menu, open the "Re encode to Same Variable" function page.

Select all course variables and add them to the variable list on the right. Open the "Old and New Values" setting for batch replacement.

After selecting "System missing value or user missing value", enter the content you want to replace in the new value column (here enter the number 0), and click the "Add" button to generate a replacement strategy.

The following figure shows the effect of batch replacement of missing data using SPSS data analysis software.
